Export your data from Chameleon
Five minutes in Chameleon: export your intake-and-outcome report (one row per animal who has left your care), then upload or email the file.
Steps in Chameleon
- Chameleon reports are built with Crystal Reports, and we couldn't find public step-by-step help for an animal-level export. Please ask your vendor support for the outcomes or intake report export.
- Ask for an export with one row per stay that includes the intake date, outcome date, species, intake type and outcome type, saved as CSV or Excel. Age, sex, breed and color help too.
- Chameleon support's email, as listed by Shelter Animals Count, is [email protected].
What the file needs: intake date, outcome date and species. Intake type, outcome type, age, sex, breed, color and size make the benchmarks better. Extra columns are fine; we ignore them.
Optional: adoption returns
If an animal can come back after adoption, three optional columns help your return-rate figures: the return date, the return reason, and on the returned animal's new intake row, the earlier adoption date or the earlier animal or adoption ID. None is required. Often you don't need any of them: if the export includes the animal ID and the animal keeps the same ID when it comes back, our uploader links each adoption to that animal's next intake in your browser and sends only the dates, never the ID. We didn't find these fields named in Chameleon's public help pages, so if you're not sure where Chameleon keeps return dates or reasons, ask your vendor support for the outcomes or intake report export. We never ask for anything about adopters.
Then send it to us
- Upload it on the Contribute data page (sign in first). CSV and Excel both work, and we match your column names for you.
- Or email it as an attachment to [email protected] from your member email address. We run the same data check and reply to let you know it was accepted or what to fix.
What we keep: dates, species, age group, size, intake and outcome types, condition, and a few optional fields. Names, ID numbers, addresses and anything about people are removed and never stored. See the Data Contribution Terms.
